Sharper Shape provides a state of the art solar panel inspection service. Although thermal images are the primary data source, solar farms are inspected with both a visual camera as well as a high resolution thermal imager. From these two image sources, separate orthomosaics are created – one with the standard optical nadir photos and the other with IR nadir photos. The software uses these orthophotos to automatically identify and geo-locate issues within any panel throughout the solar farm, down to the individual solar cell level.

Solar Panel inspections use the same small UAS that is used for ADI work – the DJI Inspire 2 or the DJI Matrice M210. In both cases, the sensors deployed are the Zenmuse XT infrared imager and the Zenmuse X5S 20MP camera.

Sharper Shape provides an actionable report that provides exact locations of cells within panels that require attention. It identifies hot spots – indicating electrical failures – as well as cool areas – indicating soiled or obscured panels. The reports are cloud based and accessible from anywhere a secure internet connection is available.
